The article presents an analytical review of the leading trends in the development of medical volunteer movement in different historical periods of Russian history. At all stages of its development volunteer activity was inextricably linked with charity. The degree of volunteer activity was largely determined by external or internal threats (epidemics, wars), causing the unification of the whole society. The modern stage of volunteer movement development is characterized by a complete transition under state control, from «military (paramilitary) volunteering» to social volunteering, from local initiatives at the level of educational organizations of individual regions to all-Russian actions.
<kwd-group xml:lang="en"><kwd>medical volunteer movement</kwd><kwd>volunteering</kwd><kwd>Russian charity</kwd><kwd>medical volunteers</kwd></kwd-group><kwd-group xml:lang="ru"><kwd>медицинское добровольческое движение</kwd><kwd>добровольческая деятельность</kwd><kwd>российская благотворительность</kwd><kwd>волонтеры-медики</kwd></kwd-group></article-meta></front><body></body><back><ref-list><ref id="B1"><label>1.</label><mixed-citation>Omel&amp;apos;chenko A.
