Modern computer systems can store and process data more efficiently than a doctor. A geographic information system is a platform that analyzes and displays location information. This technology has been used for several years in disciplines such as urban planning, geology and environmental science. More recently, the medical industry has realized the benefits of combining the extensive information contained in electronic medical records with GIS resources.
